Your privacy is important, and the law protects the confidentiality of communications between a client and a psychotherapist. Information will not be shared without your written consent, except in specific situations where I am legally obligated to take action to protect you or others.
Exceptions to confidentiality include:
· If there is suspected abuse or neglect of a child, dependent adult, or elder, I am required by law to report it to the appropriate authorities immediately.
· If a client makes a serious threat of harm to another person, I must notify law enforcement and the potential victim.
· If a client is at risk of harming themselves, I will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety. If necessary, and only as permitted by law, I may take additional steps to protect their well-being, even without consent.
