About Vanilla Pines Counseling

Find Your Way Back to Peace

The bark of the iconic ponderosa pine found in the beautiful Flagstaff, Arizona smells of vanilla… and sometimes butterscotch, orange creamsicles, or sweet coconut. These tall, resilient trees release terpenes that help them attract pollinators, repel predators, and improve the trees immune system. That same comforting scent invites us humans to pause, breathe deeply, and reconnect with our bodies and the world around us. At Vanilla Pines, we believe healing should feel that way too: grounding, natural, and nurturing.

Inspired by the most aromatic "yellowbellies," the beautifully fat and wise old matriarch pines of the forest, this practice was created as a space for you to be seen, supported, and encouraged to grow. Whether you’re navigating grief, anxiety, trauma, or simply feeling stuck, you're not alone. We’re here to walk alongside you as you reconnect with your own inner strength.

Meet Your Counselor:
Kristin Anderson, LMSW

A safe guide for exploring the depths.

Kristin, unlike the iconic Ponderosa Pines, does not naturally smell of vanilla in the Summer. On the contrary, if she’s not in the office, you’ll most likely find her on a lone trail or floating a quiet river with her dog, Bear. Kristin believes in the power of nature and animals to heal many of the creatures that share space in our bodies and minds. Kristin likes to think of herself as a holistic counselor; unafraid of straying away from the “standard session” to discuss how food, movement, medication, spirituality, rest, and usual habits are impacting our wellbeing.

Kristin received a bachelor’s in social work in 2009 from Utah Valley University (former LDS… saw you wondering) and a masters in 2020 from Northern Arizona University (…Go Jacks!). With almost 20 years of experience, Kristin brings an eclectic, grounded approach to her work. She has worked extensively with clients facing eating disorders, trauma, grief, depression, serious mental illness, domestic violence, religious trauma, and anxiety.

Her office is tucked inside the Historic Ice House in Downtown Flagstaff, where she offers individual therapy, couples counseling, and small group sessions for adults and the occasional teen.

It’s okay if you’re a bit lost; together we can find the path forward.
